Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic self-starting professionals to serve as a part-time City Coordinator for our Scaling Safety Initiative, a first-of-its-kind project to build the organizational capacity and programmatic strategy for community-based violence intervention and prevention agencies efforts to reduce violence in their respective communities and serve as a complementary strategy to existing law enforcement efforts.

Spearheaded by the Community-Based Public Safety Collective (CBPSC) and the Alliance for Safety and Justice (ASJ), Scaling Safety aims to support cities across the nation experiencing chronic violence cycles to scale up effective community-based intervention, prevention, and crisis response programs and integrate these strategies with the goal of making public funding for these organizations a permanent investment in community safety.  Scaling Safety will focus its strategies across 5 cities: Austin, Texas; Tucson, Arizona; Jackson, Mississippi; Miami, Florida; and Cleveland, Ohio with the goal of reducing violence by 50% over the next 5 years.  We are currently recruiting for the Tucson, Arizona location only.


Role Description

The ideal candidate has extensive relationships with community-based organizations that provide crisis response in the city, is familiar with the city government, and has grassroots-level experience in the neighborhoods most impacted by violence. The candidate must have experience working in one or more of the following areas: community violence intervention, victim-based and survivor-led advocacy, mental health crisis response or assistance, reentry, local policy advocacy and/or local government relations.
 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a liaison with city officials and build local support for the Scaling Safety initiative.

  • Join or lead a local coordinating meeting focused on coordinating the public safety ecosystem.

  • Serve as a liaison with community-based organizations working on local, state, and possibly federal advocacy strategy.

  • Coordinate local training delivery for community-based organizations on advocacy, media, victim services, political organizing, and more.   

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements

This is a part-time position with an expectation of 20 hours per week. Some evening and weekend work will be required.

This is a hybrid remote part-time position. Some travel may be required for retreats, site visits, and in-person trainings. 

 

Job requirements include:

  • Excellent time management skills, ability to multitask and prioritize work

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational and planning skills, meeting facilitation and note-taking skills.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suites, Google Suites, Project Management Systems (Monday.com), Zoom and group text apps.
